Good Morning Senators!
We have a lot of extra fruit and fresh produce here at the elementary building from our Summer Food Program. Please stop by today at the main office to pick up your food. We will be here until 3:00 today.
#WeAreWest!
Parents and Guardians:
During drop-off and pick-up at the elementary, please do not pass other cars waiting in line. Some students get out on the driver's side, and passing cars put them in danger. Additionally, we ask all adults to stay in the car unless you have a preschool student. Please have your child ready to leave the car when you get to the door, that helps the line to move more quickly.
Let's all do our best to be patient with each other-nobody likes to wait- but keeping these children safe is our top priority. #WeAreWest!
On behalf or the Special Education Department, we would like to invite you to participate in the 2021 "Light it Up Blue" Autism Awareness Day at the Washington-Nile Local School District.
All proceeds will go the the Autism Project of Southern Ohio (located in Portsmouth).
Donations will be collected at each building on Friday, most likely during first period.
The HS already has some Autism activities going on this week, thanks to the PWHS Key Club. If the Key Club can raise $500, this donation will be matched! Let's help them reach this goal and beyond!
A special thanks to Stacey Riber for leading the way on planning this years activities at PWES and PWMS.
See you on Friday.....Wear Blue and support a great cause!
It's a Beautiful Day!

Parents and Guardians:
Please help us to keep our students safe at drop off and pick-up times. PLEASE DO NOT go around the car in front of you in line; kids are getting in and out of cars and could easily be hurt. Also, you MUST stay in your car at all times, walking to the door to pick up your child is not an option, (except for PK kids). We realize that it is an inconvenience to wait in line, but the safety and well-being of every child here is our top priority. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation. #WEAREWEST!
Good evening! Just a reminder, we will be dismissing at 12:00 tomorrow, Thursday, April 1. PWES will not be in session on Friday, April 2 and Monday, April 5. We wish everyone a Happy Easter and enjoy your time off for Spring Break.
As we prepare to move to our Yellow COVID Return Plan on March 29, we want to refresh everyone on our COVID protocols. We are excited to have all of our students back in the building!
Students will be sent home from school with one or more of the following symptoms:
-chills, rigors, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, myalgia, headache, couch, fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
We will assume students have COVID 19 UNLESS another test is positive for a virus (aka a positive RVP panel) or bacterial infection (strep throat by culture or rapid testing). If they are positive for any of these, then they may return to school once symptom free, fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication and a doctor’s excuse with the alternate medical diagnosis listed.
If they are negative for these tests, they will not be readmitted to school until they are 10 days out from initial symptoms and are symptom free and fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. That is, we are assuming they are COVID 19 positive even if a test for COVID 19 is negative.
And remember masks, goggles and distancing work!
Beginning Monday, March 15th ,Portsmouth West Elementary students will be attending school 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday. Fridays will continue to be a virtual learning day. On Monday, March 29, PWES students will attend school 5 days a week. Thank you for your support with transitioning students back to school full time.

Benchmark skill assessments are used to provide a clear picture of your student's academic abilities. This data is used to determine your child's future academic needs. When administering these tests it is important that students show what they know and that they are in a quiet location with little distractions. We believe that the best place to test is in the classroom with the support of a teacher. Portsmouth West Elementary staff is hoping that testing in the classroom will be possible. We are also very aware of the current COVID-19 issues. Planning for such assessments requires us to look at different possibilities. Please complete this survey to help us prepare a testing scenario that would work best for your student. The skill assessment will take place approximately January 11th - 22nd, 2021. Testing will take 30-60 minutes.

Good afternoon parents and guardians! First of all, thank you so much for the incredible support you have been through this season of at-home learning. We are a team, we need each other, and we are so very thankful for our amazing WEST parents! PLEASE continue to monitor your child's daily assignments and Google Meets. It is so important for them to complete their work and join in on the Google Meets when scheduled. Remember that our staff is only an email or phone call away, and we will do anything we can to help you. #WEAREWEST!
Correction:
The weekly food pick-up will be Thursday, December 3- Buena Vista and Lett Terrace 11-12:30 pm and at the high school from 4:00-5:00 pm. Students who receive Steven Hunter Power Packs may pick those up at any of the locations.
Portsmouth West Elementary school will be open from 9-11 am each school day to allow students without quality home internet service to come in and complete their work. Elementary students MUST be accompanied by ONE adult family member. Students need to bring their charged Chromebook/IPAD and will be asked to sit in the cafeteria, wear their mask, and practice safe social distancing. The school will provide supervision and support during this time. Students will not be allowed to visit classrooms. Stay safe.
The dramatic increase in COVID cases and quarantine notifications our school district has received this week has negatively impacted our ability to provide adequate supervision, instruction, and related services .
Beginning Monday – November 30, 2020
• All schools will be on remote learning until January 4, 2021, at which time we will re-evaluate the situation.
• Students will need to log on, complete the daily assignments, follow Google Classroom lessons/activities/assignments, and participate in the live Google Meets or pre-recorded learning videos. For those families who do not have internet connectivity, each school will have internet services available at the school from 9:00am – 11:00 daily. Principals will be communicating with you about this process.
• Students are encouraged to email or contact their teachers for further information or clarification.
• Teachers and staff will report as regularly scheduled.
• The schedule for meal pick-ups will be announced as soon as possible.
• The bus to the CTC and CAPE will operate on regular schedule.
