"I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground.
But it's not just a penny
This little coin I've found."
From "Pennies from Heaven", By Charles Mashburn
This week begins our "Pennies for Patients" campaign in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual fundraiser. Each year over 14.5 million students and 850,000 educators in 28,000 schools across the US participate in the event. The LLS provides much needed funding towards research, looking for a cure for blood cancer diseases. The organization also supports patients and families with medical bills and other related expenses.
"The LLS Student Series is a service learning, character education and philanthropy program where students gain the unique experience of helping children and adults fight against blood cancers like leukemia. As children move through their years at school, they can grow with the Student Series and have an even greater impact on the lives of patients. By participating, not only will kids learn about making an impact, but about leadership, teamwork, philanthropy and what 'doing good' for others can mean."
