The induction ceremony was held before the West/Coal Grove Football game with Mr. Asa Jewett and his family and Mr. Paul Farley’s wife and son receiving their award.

Mr. Farley spent a large part of his seventy-six years dedicating his time and energy to the athletic program at Portsmouth West Schools. While in high school Paul was a four year letterman in football, basketball, and golf. He was also a two year letterman in baseball.

In 1962 Paul started his coaching career. He started out coaching pee-wee football and assisting Tom Swain with the high school team. Paul devoted the next 48 years of his life to the Senators, football program. Always known for his words of encouragement and excitement for the game, Paul was always the coach that kids leaned on when they had a question or needed advice. Paul has touched thousands of player’s lives throughout his career. The Washington-Nile Local School District appreciates all of his dedication towards the programs of our district.

2015 Inductee Asa Jewett

Asa Jewett is a 1998 graduate of Portsmouth West High School. He was a leader on the basketball court for the Senators.

Graduating West High in 1998, Asa Jewett led the way toward many wins for the Senator basketball team during his career here. His many records and awards are a testament to his athletic abilities, sportsmanship, and being a true team player.


The following are 1997-1998 season totals.

• Scored 387 points-19.3 per game

• High single game score was 33 points

• Asa pulled down 260 rebounds an average 13.0 per game (High for individual game 21)

• Averaged 2.1 assists per game

• Asa had 123 blocks for the 97-98 season, which is 6.1 per game. (high for individual 14 blocks)

• Shot 63.3% from the field

• Shot 70.4% from the free throw line

• Asa had 6 triple doubles during the 97-98 season and 17 double/doubles for the season.

Accepting Nominations

The Washington-Nile Local School District is currently accepting nominations for the district’s Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame Award 2016. Please go to our district website or contact the high school for a nomination form. The selection committee will be meeting in April. All nominations should be received before April 1st, 2016 deadline.
