2013 Hall of Fame Inductee Jerome Barker

Jerome Barker earned nine varsity letters at Portsmouth West High School from 1972 through 1976 in football, baseball, and basketball. In addition to being named Captain of his teams and receiving numerous school athletic awards, he received scholastic honors and was elected President of his Senior Class. In 1976 Barker received the John Mitchell Memorial Award and Doc Singleton Sportsmanship Award. In football, Barker received post season award honors in the Southern Ohio Conference as the Lineman of the Year in 1975 and was named to the 1st Team All District and 2nd Team All State as a Defensive Lineman in 1975. in basketball, Barker was named the 2nd Team All Conference Team for the 1975-1976 seasons. Barker was 1st Team All Conference for both the 1975 and 1976 baseball seasons.

After graduating from Portsmouth West High School, Barker received an appointment to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where he played football for four years from 1976 through 1979. While at Navy, Barker earned three varsity letters for football. In the 1978 win against Air Force and in the 1979 victory over Army, Barker received the game ball honors in recognition

for his significant line play.

Upon graduating from the Naval Academy, Barker received a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy. As a regard for his athletic contributions and achievements at Navy, Barker was assigned to the Naval Academy Prep School in 1980 to serve as an assistant football coach and the head coach of the wrestling team.

In 1986 after completing his active duty military career, Barker began a career as a special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). During his career in the FBI, Barker worked on many of the nations most significant cases and was selected to be a member of the Hostage Rescue Team, where he served for seven years. Barker was a two time recipient of the Medal of Merit, for his courageous actions during critical incidents. Barker retired from the FBI after serving nearly 25 years as a Special Agent.

Jerome has been married to his wife Priscilla for over 31 years. 

They have two sons, Justin and Trent.

Portsmouth West High School would like to congratulate Jerome Barker for all of his accomplishments and being inducted into our 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame.
